OK I added "deb http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt binary/" to my repository list
in Synaptic and updated to 0.9.5 which is the latest version listed.

blew away the old .wine folder - isn't it nice that an update requires
reinstallation of all programs? 

copied fonts - stdole32.tlb - usp10.dll - ran winecfg, selected Win98, setup
drives, added overrides for the 2 windoze files


Wonderful!  Now the program won't even install!  Installshield hangs showing 3
small blue blocks of progress.  Terminal output shown below:

At this point I'm really ticked off.  At least some programs worked before the
update!
