The installer from
http://downloads.guru3d.com/downloadget.php?id=676&file=2&evp=515cd1be755993bc18d41c4b7646ebde
seems to have the same problem (it stops with an error just before the
installation starts) This download is only 50 MB so easier to test than the far
cry demo. I bet more installers stopped working in wine-0.9.12...
