http://repo.or.cz/w/wine/hacks.git (use link with browser not git) now contains
a similar hack that can be enabled by a registry key.

ddraw: Hack to draw to the desktop window.
This can be enabled by setting the registry key
HKCU\Software\Wine\Direct3D\DirectDrawDesktopHack to "Y".
