I am getting this error even when i try the basic wine comand as 'wine
notepad'. I tried the steps as suggested by you but no success. Below is the
output which i am getting.

[latish at localhost ~]$ mv .wine .wine_old
[[latish at localhost ~]$ winecfg
wine: creating configuration directory '/home/latish/.wine'...
wait event returned -14
wine: wineprefixcreate failed while creating '/home/latish/.wine'.
[latish at localhost ~]$ wineserver: could not save registry branch to
/home/latish/.wine-0lyunH/system.reg : No such file or directory
wineserver: could not save registry branch to
/home/latish/.wine-0lyunH/user.reg : No such file or directory
