Please don't use your windows installation.  
The preferred way to go is
  $ unset WINEPREFIX
  $ rm -rf ~/.wine
  $ wineprefixcreate
Then install mfc42.dll, preferably by running
vcredist.exe, which you can get from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/vc60pro/update/1/w9xnt4/en-us/vc6redistsetup_enu.exe

Using your Windows installation isn't recommended,
partly because we're not sure how to repeat the problem then.
