I tried your change, but it did not fix the issue.
No change in behaviour is noticeable.

I tried with WDEPTH=16 too, and apart from some warnings like
"err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateBitmap Trying to make bitmap with planes=1, bpp=16"
the program still behaves in the same way.
