Yes, but only the parts that I interact with. Other parts remain black.

No, nothing changes when I run "xrandr -s 0"

When I use a virtual desktop for installing the game, only the virtual desktop
blacks (the ugly background color there is replaced by a black color ;)). When
I minimize and maximize the virtual desktop, the black is gone and I have the
ugly default background color again.
