Nevertheless, I believe it's best to solve this issue through the mailing
lists.

I am not aware that it is possible to perform interactive tests in that area,
and I cannot think of a non-interactive way to test whether the problem still
exists. If both are correct, this bug is a poor candidate for the automatic
tests.
