I can't confirm what Jan said. I did some extensive tests:

1) wine 0.9.56 (failsafe terminal)
  a) no virtual desktop
    i) ut: error message
    ii) deus ex: error message

  b) virtual desktop
    i) ut: error message
    ii) deus ex: error message

2) wine 0.9.56 (XFCE)
  a) no virtual desktop
    i) ut: error message
    ii) deus ex: error message

  b) virtual desktop
    i) ut: error message
    ii) deus ex: error message

3) wine GIT plus patch (failsafe terminal)
  a) no virtual desktop
    i) ut: no error
    ii) deus ex: no error

  b) virtual desktop
    i) ut: no error
    ii) deus ex: no error

4) wine GIT plus patch (XFCE)
  a) no virtual desktop
    i) ut: no error
    ii) deus ex: no error

  b) virtual desktop
    i) ut: no error
    ii) deus ex: no error

At least for me the error doesn't disappear as soon as I use XFCE.
