I might have been wrong about your "deb" files.

In fact, my former Wine install resulted from 2 different places:
1- When my system was Ubuntu "Feisty", Wine version came from the official
Ubuntu servers (for Feisty).
2- Then I did a "big" update to Ubuntu 7.10 "Gutsy", and Wine has been updated
from Ubuntu servers (for Gutsy this time)--> the problem appeared, if I
remember correctly.
3- Then I added the WINE-HQ server "http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt" to the
Synaptic software to update Wine, as explained on the wineHQ website, hoping it
would resolve le problem, in vain.

Then I think it might be due to the Ubuntu update...
Maybe the deb file built by the Ubuntu guys was too specific ?

It's a bit complicated for me.
In fact I will avoid doing more tests, as it works now for me :-)
I won't take the risk to break it again !

Then I can paint again !
