I'm pleased to find I am not the only one with this issue, but also sad because
this is a real curly one... and I don't like the chances of this being resolved
this side of Christmas :(

System:
Core2 Quad Q6600
MemTotal: 8194260 kB
MB: Gigabyte EP35-DS3R thingie
www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2740

On-board Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI
Express Gigabit...thingie

Ubuntu Hardy 64bit.
1.1.0~winehq0~ubuntu~8.04-1
Kernel 2.6.24-19-generic SMP x86_64 etc.

After some testing I have come to the conclusion that this 'LAG' is most
certainly a network issue generated by the lotro client when being used with
Linux+Wine.

As so many other people have described, I have witnessed the LOTRO client
bursting a huge number of UDP packets, flooding my upstream connection and
trashing everything in it's path. This even occurred when standing still and
not even moving.

Booting into WinXP 64bit and running around the same area barely uses more than
15Kbps upstream and never bursts packets at all.

I guess I will hold onto this old WinXP partition a while longer...:(

One thing I have noticed with this issue, is that in my case I have noticed
that the game begins to have large amounts of packet loss only when I do
actions that require extra data upload to the server (ex: Attacking enemys,
looting corpses). If I do not do anything at all and just stand in one spot,
I get relatively low % packet loss ( 0.9 to 20% ). But, if I get more then
about 90% packet loss then stand still, my connection will gradually get better
over time.
