We could also create some new field in the .desktop files, e.g. X-Wine-Lnkfile,
so that a process could periodically delete .desktop files whose .lnk files no
longer exist. This is like the syncing approach except that it does not require
the creation of some new "database" so would be easier to implement.

There is still the problem of deciding when to run this process.
