I'm also using Ubuntu 8.04LTS Hardy Heron. and got my copy of wine from the
repo at http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/apt/sources.list.d/hardy.list

Creating a new wineprefix does not create any ./drive_c/windows/system32/odbc*
files for me either.
