Hi I have had simmilar problems - I figured out another error message that
would not be displayed when wine is running as user. When starting wine as root
it said something like: cannot change depth from 24 to 16. I changed the
default depth in my xorg.conf from 24 to 16 (who needs 24 bits for surfing the
web) and now the game works like a charm even as user. I hope this helps
closing this bug. BTW I run 1.0_rc3.
