I guess that's my fault, I usually use a non-standard true type font...
Bookman.
You can change the font of texts using any truetype font; if you don't do and
you don't have bookman, autocad substitutes all with built-in ugly txt font (or
similar) which is not truetype.

After changing, look at text, you can easily see it it's truetype.
When you've it ok, just try small zooms in-out with mouse wheel. At a certain
step, autocad will appear hang for 2-3 seconds. If you go too far, the bug
disappears, as Autocad uses a different rendering approach.
When you get the right zoom factor, try panning.... it hangs depending on
screen content from 1-2 seconds up to 6-10 seconds.
