Yes, the problem is much less severe in virtual desktop
mode or with the gnome bar dragged onto the right side
of the screen instead of the top (though there is still
an off-by-two-or-so-bug horizontally in one floating 
window; oddly in different direction between real and
virtual desktop).

However, imageready 6 now hangs on startup, which
I don't think it did before; I had to try it on imageready 7.
And lots of icons are now drawn black, which I don't
think was the case before.  Regressions galore, I guess.
