Suggestion: Clarify the summary by changing it to something like: "wine windows
become invisible after changing desktops in compiz".

And yes, you can get them back by getting compiz out the way and reverting to
metacity:
% metacity --replace

However my previous comment suggests that the bug might not be in compiz.

Also, the bug can be avoided by using "Emulate a virtual desktop" in winecfg.
