This /kind of/ works now.  With winver as win2k, the .NET installer finishes
fine, but the game's setup won't start.  With winver as winxp, the .NET crashes
(with a standard MS send/don't send error report dialogue) but apparently has
done enough to convince the real installer that .NET is installed.
