It simply goes by a different name:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper/libfreetype6-dev

Anyway, back to the bug - it works just fine for me with Wine 0.9.57, both on
Ubuntu Dapper and on Slackware 12. Lawrence, it sounds like you have issues
compiling Wine with freetype support. This is not a Wine bug, so I'm going to
close it.

Please continue the discussion on the wine forum, wine-users list, or a
slackware help forum. Perhaps you can try the prebuilt slackware package here:
