I'm redefining the problem.
If you click on an individual in order to edit, copy/paste will or will not
work depending upon which field is being edited.

When the individual's information window is open, the upper half contains edit
boxes for names, dates locations, etc.  Pasting into any of these may cause
Legacy to freeze, or, in some cases, the operation appears to freeze but the
window/box can be closed.  The lower half box allows cut/paste as normal.

In general, cut/paste in various areas may give one or other of these outcomes.
