Yes, it is possible to circumvent this stuff by means of hacking the
executable.
But even then there are other wine showstoppers waiting ;-)

There are working alternatives, you could try winny/share successor "perfect
dark" (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=6674)
