Hi all.

The problem has been solved.  Allow a little history to explain what happened.

My original CD had been damaged (though use) and so I downloaded a disk image
through a torrent site.  The image file was a .bin and .cue pair.  I burned
these using a Linux, but I am not sure what I did.  The CD mounts and all
appears OK, but as a test, I tried to install from this same CD onto a Windows
box and experienced the SAME problem I logged the call for.

After using bchunk to convert the image to an ISO and then re-burning it, I now
have a working installation.
