The following "err:" messages are probably tied to the use of COM5:
fixme:menu:TrackPopupMenuEx not fully implemented
err:comm:get_baud_rate tcgetattr error 'Input/output error'
err:comm:set_baud_rate tcgetattr error 'Input/output error'
fixme:menu:TrackPopupMenuEx not fully implemented

I didn't try to shift the GPS' data rate from 4800 baud and data was received
in good order, so I'm not sure what the complaint really is, but there it is.
