yes this did it. under ubuntu hardy setting
System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects->None caused two compiz
processes to stop (a third one still runs, 'compiz-decorator' but no harm) and
What Watch to start and run proper.

Is this due to Wine or Compiz or both?
What Watch uses a skinned window, could that be the problem?

should I change the state of this bug? as it isn't actually fixed...
