     NOTE that the 'README' file still says: : From the top-level directory
of the Wine source (which contains this file), run:
./tools/wineinstall

This time I followed Vataliy's suggestions and found no problems - except
that it takes 30 seconds for the little program WXtide32 to load. But it seems
to run just fine (with the exception of the window problem reported under bug
2527).

     deleted wine 0.9.61 directory & untared the file .... again
           tar jxvf wine-0.9.61.tar.bz2

     did NOT delete the ".wine" directory

     changed into the directory
           cd wine-0.9.61

     typed (as NON-root)
           ./configure  && make depend && make

         ..... had lunch :-)  .....

     got message "Wine build complete."

     sudo make uninstall
     sudo make install

     seemed to go fine & no error messages
