No, I wasn't running the tests as root.  When running the dotests script, I see
lines like:
Running: comctl32:rebar (30 of 335)
The crash occured on 309 of 335.  I don't have the name handy, though I could
run it again if you like.

I don't know if "hard lock" is the right term.  The hard drive was running
constantly and the mouse behaving poorly, but the 2nd time it responded to
killing X.  I suspect it just ran up the memory through the roof, started
swapping, and never stopped.

I'm using an nvidia card using the nvidia drivers.
