I had some free time and debugged this further.  The problem isn't with wine. 
Something changed from mdcrack-182 to 183 and that change is causing the
problem.  I have tried wine-1.1.6 and 1.1.7 and the combination that works best
for me is wine-1.1.7 and mdcrack-182.

We now have to contact mdcrack at videotron.ca and get him/her to fix mdcrack so
it works with wine again.
