The app began working (i.e. actually showing an intelligible start-up screen)
somewhere around v0.9.60 and this persisted until v1.1.0.  For versions beyond
that, the system locks up with a continually refreshing black screen and
continuously beeping system bell.  I haven't dug into the diagnostics too much,
but it appears the new issue is related to wined3d, which I understand is
undergoing many changes.

I would prefer to resolve the server addressing issue with an older stable
version first so I can actually test the app's features.  This is complicated
somewhat by the fact that I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 and only devl downloads are
available for the new version.  If I'm able to get past the initial screen, I
think it might be simpler to go after the next problem, which appears to be a
regression issue.
