If it's of interest to anyone,

If wininet does progress to make this installer work for Far Cry, the
successful outcome will be the installer aborting and your registered email
account receiving the following email from Ubisoft:

available for ad-supported freeplay over the Labor Day weekend. The
promotion is now closed and it is no longer possible to play the games
for free.
