Hi Art,

Wine hasn't worked for me since Ubuntu introduced Pulse Audio.
I only play a few old games and most of them work horribly with pulseaudio.I
have a dual core 1.6 Ghz processor, 1GB RAM, Ati Radeon X1150 video card, so
performance on those games shouldn't be a problem.

With the alsa plugin
Counter Strike non-source 1.6 has very low performance 10-15 fps
Disciples II ROTE the game lags a lot, even the mouse moves laggy
Starcraft you can notice some lag.
Heroes III the only game that works good for me.

With the OSS plugin the games play a few times better, but still the
performance is bad.

If I disable the sound all games run like before.

The really bad thing is that before pulseaudio most games had good performance,
CounterStrike even had better fps than in WINDOWS and lower ping.

So Art can you tell us more about your patch, and if it will fix the pulse
audio performance problem?

Also will it be included in wine, because for me the performance drop is a huge
drawback from using wine anymore?

Most distributions use Pulseaudio so a solution should be found.
