EVE Online uses BITS to download the patches for Apocrypha.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is a component (service) of
Microsoft Windows operating systems that facilitates prioritized, throttled,
and asynchronous transfer of files using idle network bandwidth.

BITS is not fully implemented in wine (and there are no plans to implement it
soon afaik), so for the moment we are stuck with manual downloading and
patching, which, after all, is not the biggest problem with eve on linux :)
