Perhaps Kevin and I are having a different problem, but I am experiencing
exactly the same behavior.  Trying to play a game (in my case Sacrifice) mutes
the PCM channel and sets the volume to zero.  I had to open alsamixer (the
GNOME volume control works too), and unmute it *and* bring the volume back up.

wine-1.1.19 on Ubuntu 9.04.  I don't have the time to try a regression test;
this computer is a relic and takes forever to compile.
