This problem occurs with Mathematica 6.03 installed under Wine 1.01 (the
version that the Synaptic Package Manager offers for installation on Ubuntu
9.04).

The application apparently is configured as an Arabic language version: the
fonts offered in the font menus are Arabic fonts, the main application windows,
and the help screens display what is probably poorly rendered Arabic.

Installing new fonts from the Wolfram website does not help, probably because
the fonts were okay, it is the language the application is configured to run in
that seems broken.
