My mistake.
I wrote it in the title but not in the message:

The configure script does not check the presence of libXext headers. 
The configure script already checks the presence of other missing header files
for X, but not these needed ones.

I think that is not an invalid request, just a request to make the configure
script more accurate in order to make a happy compilation possible.
