Empty drop-down

I use Garamond font for most things, added from mscorefonts or from my Windows
partition or something?
On the 'Insert' tab of the ribbon there is the button to insert a symbol, which
when you click the arrow underneath displays the most recently used ones. For
fonts such as Arial and Garamond this is blank, although clicking any of the
spaces will insert whatever character should be there. For Liberation fonts
etc. it works correctly.
