There's no need to run the RGSC at all, I brought it up without that.
Try this:
1) install the game on XP
2) start with a clean ~/.wine
3) winetricks vcrun2005sp1 msxml3 wmp9 gecko winxp
   (mono20 might be needed, can't remember)
4) Bump the service pack version in ntdll/ to 3.0
5) install xliveless.dll over the one provided by Microsoft Games for Windows
6) Run the game without cracks applied
7) You should be able to get up the license screen before it complains as it
did for me in comment 23.
