I have the same behaviour with wine-1.1.15. The issue only happens when
fullscreen mode is set in the game (iwd2). It seems that the the wine setting
"emulate virutal desktop" has no influence with respect to this problem.

Setting the resolution to 1024x768 before starting the game does not help. It
seems that when the screen resolution matches the resolution of the game, the
only in-game available setting is fullscreen mode.
