I tried this patch, and what I get is the game being unable to run.

Good thing, except that at moment I can't test it.
Actual GIT doesn't run l4d, steam run nicely but I can't start left 4 dead. 
This is not due to your patch, I've compile it with and without your patch,
it's a current git regression.
