I'm seeing the same problem.
(I also tried "winetricks winsock", no change.)

It's tempting to log the win32 calls on windows
(with e.g. windows logger from
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/DevTools/Debugging )
and see what's supposed to happen after the
server's response is received...
