Installation now works perfectly in Wine 1.1.26. Running the game crashes with
a segfault. I'm going to attach a +relay log but I think the problem stems from
this part of it:

0009:Call KERNEL32.CreateFileA(0032fcac "C:\\Program
Files\\NFS/Global\\GlobalMemoryFile.bin",80000000,00000001,00000000,00000003,00000080,00000000)
ret=008df144
0009:Ret  KERNEL32.CreateFileA() retval=ffffffff ret=008df144

There is no "Global" subdirectory (I installed to C:\Program Files\NFS)
although creating it manually doesn't help.
