Ahhhhh.  So obvious.  I'm embarrassed it escaped my notice, and flattered that
you thought this was interesting enough to look into.  I'll try to get to this,
but certainly wouldn't object to someone else having a go:  Anastasius's
suggestion looks spot on to me, and the fix looks easy.
