Thanks for the good problem report.
This is a problem in user32, not commctl32, as 'winetricks comctl32'
doesn't work around it.  The backtrace shows a crash deep inside vb.

The line in EDIT_WM_KeyDown is

which was committed in April 2008 by Lei Zhang:
