I can reproduce this bug using Wine 1.1.17 on AMD64.  Steps to reproduce:

1) Install EU2 and patch it to version 1.09
2) Launch it from the command line: $  wine EU2.exe
3) Wait.  Approximately 85 seconds after the main menu comes up (one
playthrough of the background music), the program will crash.
