Same problem here with the following hardware/software:
- GeForce 7050 (integrated on ASRock ALiveNF7G-HDready motherboard)
- (K)ubuntu 8.10 using nvidia-glx-177 drivers (177.80-0ubuntu2)
- Wine 1.1.17

Wine outputs the following message continuously when the login screen should be
seen:
fixme:d3d_shader:shader_glsl_select >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_OPERATION
(0x502) from glUseProgramObjectARB @ glsl_shader.c / 3628

All the different resolutions (both fullscreen and windowed) I've tried give
the same result - that is, no login screen, just the forest scene. Also, those
resolutions work fine with native linux games and other games through wine, and
are visible in xrandr.
