Silverlight is only available in US English.  The French website links to the
same download, US English.
The sha1sum I got previously must have been a failed download.  The sha1sum is
the same no matter which language you choose (I didn't check every one) and the
installer is in English.

Nonetheless, my locale is en_GB and the installer still fails (with latest
git).

Under Windows, set to en_GB, the expected happens... it works.
