It's installed from source (from: http://www.winehq.org/download/; source
download at the bottom). It's compiled on a Debian Squeeze system after running
apt-get build-dep wine. Older versions of wine and libwine were removed prior
to compiling from source. The exact commands for compiling and installing wine
was, in the directory from tarball: ./configure && make dep && make && sudo
make install.

But I had the same trouble with the .deb package (for Debian) available from
the same link.
