I see this problem in wine-1.1.32 and also the development HEAD at the time of
writing.

I have also discovered that the problem is related to the user language. My
ubuntu 9.10 installation is configured to use Dutch as the user interface
language. Running wine like this makes the problem disappear:

LANG="" wine pptview.exe
