i do not know if any of those parameters removed in those commits are used
anywhere but indeed: reverting that patch actually solved the problem.

btw: there is a demo of the game available at
http://www.4players.de/4players.php/download_start/PC-CDROM/Download/6104.html
that also has the problem. after installing click on "Neue Kampagne" (new
campaign) and you should see all available characters standing on the stones.
but due to this bug you won't see anybody.
