I get something similar, but only if i try to run the game directly from CD by
autorun.exe.

If run the game from installation directory (ie. Program Files/Bethesda
Softworks/Morrowind), the game runs fine.

Consider closing this bugreport. Works (and tested) under 1.1.31.
