As a workaround it worked for me to build a start-script for WoW like this:

wine explorer /desktop=<VIRTUAL_DESKTOP_NAME>,<X_RESOLUTION>x<Y_RESOLUTION>
PATH_TO_PROGRAM 

for example:
wine explorer /desktop=wow,1280x1024 /home/xyz/.wine/drive_c/Programme/World\
of\ Warcraft/Wow.exe
